Though visitors only see about half of the original house, it’s well-preserved with an interesting mix of Spanish, Mission and ranchero influences. Hopetoun House is often overlooked by visitors to Edinburgh, but it is one of the most splendid examples of Georgian architecture in Britain, and is only a short drive to the west of Edinburgh. In all honesty, though, I had goose bumps the entire time I was inside the house because it felt so weird to walk around freely in someone else’s living room when they weren’t there.
